So Why Borneo? Simply because we feel that working with close partners on the ground, we can make a difference and save wildlife in the region. Four young females are now roaming in the Zoo’s former elephant exhibit.This is the first time we are able to bring rhinos to Nashville, said Zoo President Rick Schwartz. With their impressively large wing span, these hornbills can create a loud ‘woosh‘ noise and coupled with their distinctive beak and piercing eyes, these birds can be quite intimidating. Nashville Zoo is proud to announce the introduction of Southern white rhinoceros to our animal family. Much of the region’s economy is based on agriculture, logging and ecotourism, all three of which effect wildlife and local communities in different ways. The rhinoceros hornbill is one of the LARGEST birds found in the rainforests of South East Asia. In the north, the two Malaysian states of Sarawak and Sabah encompass much the top 1/3 rd with the small country of Brunei along the coast of the South China Sea. Often seen in powerful flight over forests, typically in pairs or small groups. Enormous bill is bright orange with a prominent casque that is short and rectangular in females, long and upswept in males. Pitch black with a white tail marked by a single dark bar. Indonesia is the lower 2/3 rds of the island making up the region called Kalimantan. Majestic and stately inhabitant of mature lowland and foothill forests. The island of Borneo is actually divided into three countries. It is long list for the world’s third largest island. Nashville Zoo now has 16 clouded leopards in their care. And the Houston Zoo has a large number of animals that can be found in Borneo: Orangutans, Asian Elephants, Clouded Leopards, Asian Small Clawed Otters, Rhinoceros Hornbill, Argus Pheasants, Bornean Eared Frogs and even Reticulated Pythons. Nashville Zoo is thrilled to announce the birth of a male and female clouded leopard on June 30The cubs weighed in at about half a pound and measured around 4 inches in length at birth which is much larger than the average cub.

Borneo is full of biodiversity – it is literally packed with animals and plants living within its tropical rainforest.
